Example 1: To view a log file and extract the value of a field from a message.

This example assumes that you have already configured the ASN.1 syntaxes required and read in a message log file.

Step 1

From the Config menu, choose User Specified Fields... From the User Specified Fields dialog, click New...

Step 2

In the Specify Field dialog, select the syntax, message, and field. Click OK. The selected User Specified Field (USF) will now appear in the list. Click OK.

Step 3

From the Config menu, select Message Display... From the Summary tab on the Configure Message Display dialog, select User Specified Field and USF Specification.

Step 4

The Summary View in the message display will now show an extra column labeled User Specified Field. This will display the value of the field specified above. The name of the field is also displayed. If the field cannot be found, the column entry is left blank.
